bulbs & lumens - the lowdown

bulbs & lumens - the lowdown

If you're unsure about lumens or undecided about what type of bulb to buy then we're here to help. The two main things to consider when buying a bulb are brightness (watts/lumens) and colour (Kelvin scale).

How many lumens do I need? (240v)

Traditionally most people used to use incandescent bulbs and their brightness was measured in watts, which is a measure of power. Now more and more people are using energy saving light bulbs which require a lot less power to emit the same amount of light so the output for these bulbs is now measured in lumens.

Simply put the higher the lumens, the brighter the light. You can use our chart below to compare incandescent bulbs with the 3 most common energy saving bulbs (halogens, CFLs, and LEDs)

What colour do I want?

The colour of light is measured on the Kelvin scale, which is a measure of temperature. The colour of the light will effect the overall mood and feel of any interior so it's important to choose the right colour. You can use the scale below to get an idea of which colour you might prefer.

lights&lamps bulbs

Our bulbs are manufactured by us specifically for our lights and lamps and are suitable to use with dimmer and on/off light switches.

All of our light bulbs are energy efficient, making them a good choice for those who want to save money on energy bills.

Our opal bulbs create a soft, evenly diffused light that is not too bright. These bulbs are often used in ambient living spaces, such as in living rooms or bedrooms. Our clear light bulbs are the most popular type of light bulb. They are used in many fittings, including desk lamps, table lamps, and floor lamps. The clear glass emits a bright light that is perfect for reading and other tasks that require good lighting. Read on for more details about our bulbs and examples of light effects.
