The serene clarity of bathroom lights

Bathrooms are hard spaces – literally. They are full of tiles, glass, porcelain, and chrome. They echo, they can feel cold.

Bathroom lights have a specific job: to soften that edge. When we design for these spaces, we aren’t just ticking the box for IP44 safety ratings (although that is essential). We are thinking about warmth. We use materials like honed alabaster, opal glass, and natural marble because they take the harsh glare of a bulb and turn it into a glow. It makes the room feel less like a laboratory and more like a sanctuary. It’s about changing the temperature of the room, not just the brightness. Read More

Architectural form: traditional bathroom wall lights

Lighting your face is different from lighting a floor. You don’t want shadows under the eyes.

A bathroom wall light placed at eye level is the most flattering light you can have. Yes, it’s practical, but it’s also about the aesthetic. Look at the Canti or the Santi. We’ve paired aged brass with Calacatta Viola marble. It’s a contrast – the stone feels ancient; the metal feels sharp.

Even if you are looking for traditional bathroom wall lights, you don’t have to settle for boring chrome fittings. You can have texture and weight. A fixture like the Kori in aged brass brings a sense of history to the wall, but the lines are clean enough to work in a modern wet room.

Diffused radiance: bathroom ceiling lights

In a bathroom, you usually don’t have the luxury of height. You can’t always hang a massive chandelier over the tub.

That is where bathroom ceiling lights like the Chelso or Silio come in. They hug the ceiling. But they aren’t just functional white plastic discs. We treat them like jewellery. Whether it’s the bronze finish or the opal glass spheres, they draw the eye up.

They provide that general, ambient wash that fills the shadows without blinding you first thing in the morning. The opal glass is key here – it diffuses the light so you don’t get that ‘spotlight’ effect that highlights every water spot on the mirror.

Frequently asked questions about bathroom suitable lighting

What does IP44 actually mean?

It means ‘splash proof’. If you are putting a light within 60cm of a water source (like a sink or bath), it needs to be IP44. All the lights in this collection meet that standard.

Can I use brass in a damp room?

Yes. Our finishes are designed to withstand the humidity. The aged brass on the Tuba or Guilla won’t tarnish overnight just because you took a hot shower.

I can’t wire a new wall light. What can I do?

Look at the Porta – it’s a rechargeable table lamp. It’s IP44 rated, so you can put it on a shelf or at the edge of the bath without worrying about cables or electricians.

Do I need a dimmer?

You don’t need one, but we’d always recommend having one. A bath requires a different mood than a shave, so being able to drop the light level changes the bathroom from a utility space to a spa.
