The deliberate glow of kitchen wall lights

Kitchens are often over-lit. We put grids of downlights in the ceilings and blast the room with lumens until it feels like an operating theatre.

Kitchen wall lights offer the antidote to that. They bring the light down to human level. When we design these fixtures, we aren’t thinking about general illumination; we are thinking about atmosphere. A wall light changes the shape of the room; it pushes the boundaries back. Read More

It highlights a texture on the wall – maybe a splashback or a piece of art – rather than just flooring the floor. It’s a softer approach that makes the kitchen feel like a room you want to sit in, not just work in.

Clarity and character: wall lights for kitchen design

There is a practical side, of course. You need to see what you are doing in the kitchen.

But wall lights for kitchen spaces should just be functional utility bars. They should also have personality. We use materials that have weight and history. The Canti uses Calacatta Viola marble – it’s a statement that says, ‘this space matters’. Or look at the Guilla in aged brass. It’s a cylinder, it’s simple – but the finish catches the light in a way that feels expensive and established.

We often use these to frame specific areas. Flanking a range cooker or sitting above open shelving, they create a focal point. They draw the eye, and add a layer of sophistication that ceiling lights just can’t achieve on their own.

A considered perspective: task lighting with space to think

When sourcing kitchen wall lights, UK homes often present a specific challenge: space. We don’t always have massive open-plan bars. We have galley kitchens and awkward corners.

That is where the silhouette matters. We keep our designs tight to the wall. The Porsa or the Tuba don’t protrude aggressively – they respect the workflow. They give you light exactly where you need it – over a prep counter or sink – without getting in the way.

It’s about precision; it’s about adding light without adding clutter. By using opaque shades like opal glass or metal, we direct the light downwards or upwards, avoiding that harsh glare that hits you in the eye when you are chopping vegetables.

Frequently asked questions about our kitchen wall lights

Do I need an electrician to install these?

Yes. These are hardwired fixtures – they need to be wired into the mains, so it’s a job for a professional.

Can I use these in a small kitchen?

Absolutely. In fact, wall lights make a small room feel bigger. By lighting the walls, you push the visual boundaries of the room outwards.

Are they dimmable?

Most of our fixtures are compatible with dimmer switches. We always recommend installing dimmers in a kitchen. Cooking requires brightness; eating requires mood. You need to be able to switch between the two easily.

What height should they be?

Roughly at eye level, or slightly above. About 150-160cm from the floor is a good starting point, but adjust it based on your ceiling height and where your shelves are.
